Tentacle Tribe

Tentacle Tribe is a Swedish-Canadian group formed by Emmanuelle Lê Phan and Elon Höglund. The Montreal-based company brings to the stage the combined experiences of the two choreographers in an unusual brand of contemporary dance, derived from hip-hop concepts and earthly creature influences. Tentacle Tribe was founded in 2012 when the two artists created a duet for Cirque Du Soleil. Subsequently, their flagship duet Nobody Likes a Pixelated Squid was performed in over 60 cities worldwide, followed by their dreamlike duet Fractals of You, which incorporated video projections by artist Gene Pendon.

In 2017 the company expanded, transposing its partnership work to the group pieces Origami Mami, Threesixnine, Puzzle and Ghost.

Various choreographies have been adapted for the screen, including Elon & Emmanuelle, Vanishing Points, Crack the Cypher, Mami Origami, and the feature film Ghost on the Ici platform.

The two choreographers have also begun work on their respective creations: Miroir Boudoir in Quebec City and Immersive Storytelling in Montreal. They are currently preparing their latest work, Satellite, in which they explore the paths of a reflective scenography.

« Pour moi, Tentacle Tribe est un duo de feu qui se balance par des tempéraments complémentaires. J’ai beaucoup d’admiration pour leur travail acharné, leurs idées créatives et le chemin qu’ils ont parcouru. Ayant eu la chance de travailler avec la compagnie durant plus de 3 ans, je peux témoigner des pas de géants qu’ils ont réalisés en quelques années seulement. Vivement les nouveaux tentacules qui s’ajoutent et les projets funkys à venir! »
