Katie Ward trained in dance at the School of Contemporary Dance in Winnipeg, in theatre at Primus Theatre in the same city, and studied choreography, art history, and studio art at Concordia University. In 2013, she also taught the creative process at the Department of Contemporary Dance at Concordia.
She founded her own company in 2011. Her recent works include Infinity Doughnut, a group performance dealing with interpersonal relations; Matière Grise, a solo piece also on the theme of relationships, choreographed in collaboration with and performed by Peter James; and Human Synthesizer, elaborated with the participation of composer Michael Feuerstack and lighting designer Paul Chambers. Katie’s artistic approach strongly focusses on making connections within the performance space, a strategy for examining and developing realism in a work.
Infinity Doughnut (2014) and Rock Steady (2012) were created in Montreal and also performed in France and England. Matière Grise was presented at Festival Transamériques in Montreal in 2016.
