Bourask (Back)

Bourask has been creating percussive dance works for young audiences and the general public since 2005. The company’s artistic director, Sylvie Mercier, first gained notoriety by her novel idea of blending traditional South African gumboot dancing with movements from the Quebecois jig and from contemporary dance, forms that are closer to her roots. Stimulated by the symbolic power of this rhythmic alliance, the choreographer focussed on capturing the close kinship that unites these dance genres despite the geographical and cultural distance between them.

Bourask stands out in the limitless landscape of dance by the originality of productions steeped in singular memories and stories while maintaining a resolutely contemporary signature that highlights all the richness and diversity of Quebec culture.
